Press button and they answer right away- they get your info- and then 3 way with local PD/FD dispatcher. When you compare that to Onstar Emergency. who then transfers the call to a local dispatcher.Ģ-5 min is a lonnnnggggg time in an emergency. Once they answer- you tell the operator your issue. youre not getting thru.Ĭause Ive called 911 quite a few times- only to be on hold for a good 2-5 minutes. Not only that- last I read (and it may have changed)- there are 2 call centers in the state that take 911 cell phone calls. here in Southern California.ġ accident- will generate tons of cell calls. Still kinda funny though.Ĭlick to expand.I dont know how other states operate.īut- unfortunately. He cracked up about this for quite some time, despite us explaining he might have been using up the resources needed for an emergency call to get through. Then he says "Just checking to make sure you're still there, don't really need anything". The first time we were in the car with him, he hit the Onstar button, and got connected to an Onstar rep. He first learned about Onstart being in the car for free as part of the lease he gets. My grandfather leases a new Buick every other year. Is that accurate?Īnyone know if you can send directions from your phone to the vehicle without the Directions and connections portion of the plan?Īlso, an interesting story. I'm guessing that AAA and Onstar are different enough services that they don't really cross over much. Do they directly compare at any level? I like the idea that if there is a crash with my wife/son in the car, the first responders are notified ASAP without further interaction on their part. For my current situation I find I do not really feel I would get value for the money. (yes I do it to my wife's beemer and their service department has commented on how clean it is underneath)įor some I am sure it is well worth the money and a great idea to have. I also hoist the vehicle up every 4 months and do a full cleaning and inspection of the underside. But I am one of those people who at every oil change, before every trip etc give the vehicle a full going over and keep notes of issues etc. I have never had a GM product leave me beside the road. I have owned GM vehicles since 1977 when I bought a used 1969 Vauxhall Viva. I do like the concept of crash notification and other assistance but for the price will pass at this time. As a result it lowered my confidence in their directions in Canada. On another trip from Calgary to Field BC they, for some reason, wanted me to go on the secondary highway after a while and then back on the main one later. I then called back after getting the directions and advised them of this and they could not find another 'easy' route but did acknowledge 10 km is a significant difference. When I called for directions back home (just to test them) they also tried to send me the long way around. I tried the turn by turn directions to go to a location across the city and their route was 33 km one way. She is navigator on trips) It folds out into a big sheet of paper and can be folded to only show the area we are currently in.īut, that said I would have considered it if they had not consistently, during the trial period, (which is still in effect for 3 more months), always sent me the long way around to destinations in my city. I have used an old fashioned tool for years which still continues to work well.
